What I am Reading….

A Family Daughter by Maile Meloy

When I picked up this book from the New Book Shelf at the library, the author’s name seemed vaguely familiar. As I began reading it, I got the sense that I knew the characters. However, I was quite certain I had not read the book before. (Too many times I have started reading a book only to realize I had read before….but still had to finish the book because I forgot how it ended.) Finally, I realized I had another book by the same author about the same characters. In this book, Abby decides to write a book loosely based on her family as a way of overcoming depression after her father’s death. The first book I read, “Liars and Saints,” is supposedly the book Abby wrote. This made it all confusing and intriguing at the same time. Honestly, “Liars and Saints” was a better story. It was interesting to see what “really happened” in this book.

I would recommend reading this book first, then “Liars and Saints.” The reverse order is somewhat anti-climatic.
