Belong to Me

Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos

A city girl and her guy decide to move to suburbia.  City girl has a hard time fitting in to the well established clique of suburban housewives.  Slowly, the reader discovers that life is not all white picket fences and apple pies in suburbia.

This book is a little bit like Desperate Housewives, but not nearly as trashy.  Actually, the characters are quite engaging and believable.  The city girl is quite petite.  Her “child-like” stature is source of many jokes. I could definitely identify with her disdain of being called “cute.”  One of the characters has a gifted teenage son, which also struck a chord with me.

This was a fast read, but quite pleasing.  It is totally “chick lit,” but much more realistic than most chick lit.  About a third of the way into the book, I was fairly certain I knew where the plot was headed.  Despite the predictability, the author still made the ride enjoyable.

Thanks for the review! Something to keep in mind if I need something “easier” for travelling. A little bit of chick lit every now and then never did any harm, right?
