Following the Rules

Posted on: 20 June, 09

Our school dress code states that shorts must be “fingertip” length.  When you stand up straight, the hem of your shorts or skirt must be lower than your fingertips.  Those of us with really long arms get the short end of that particular ruling.  I don’t wear my shorts super short, but they do miss the finger tip rule by a couple inches.  I need a few pairs of “regulation” length shorts to wear one days when I am not teaching, but still in the building.  Some of the shorts the girls wear are positively microscopic.  I want them to see that longer shorts can still be fashionable.

The pattern is a very hacked version of Design #13 from the 02/08 issue of Ottobre Woman.  This version is even more hacked because I tapered the legs in very close.  The fabric is a cotton canvas with lycra.  The last pair I made from this pattern was in a linen fabric that has much more drape.  The canvas was too firm for such a wide leg.
